School Orchestras Win Three Gold Medals at MICCA Concert Festival

Medford, MA — The Medford High School String Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Middle School String Ensemble, under the direction of Sophia Chang, earned three Gold Medals at the 2026 MICCA Concert Festival, presented by the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association.

Held March 27–29 at multiple sites across Massachusetts, the MICCA Concert Festival is designed to promote excellence in musical performance. This year’s festival featured approximately 160 instrumental ensembles from across the state. Participating groups perform for expert adjudicators and strive to achieve the prestigious MICCA Gold Medal standard.

Adjudicators—distinguished music educators from leading colleges and universities—were unanimous in their praise of the Medford ensembles, highlighting their exceptional musicianship, technical skill, and artistic maturity.

The MICCA Concert Festival provides a valuable educational experience, offering students the opportunity to perform high-quality repertoire, receive professional feedback, and engage in post-performance clinics aimed at fostering continued musical growth.
