Surveying Work To Begin For MSBA Project

Surveying Work To Begin For MSBA Project

Dear Medford Residents,

The City of Medford and Medford Public Schools are currently partnering with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to rebuild or reconstruct a new Medford High School. The current high school building, which opened in 1970, no longer meets the needs of a 21st-century High School environment. The project is currently in the Feasibility Phase, where we are working with our Owner’s Project Manager, Leftfield, and our architect, SMMA, to design the most educationally appropriate and fiscally responsible solution for a new Medford High School.

This letter is to inform you that, as part of this work towards a new high school, our project team and its consultants are studying the land at or near the current High School, which may abut your property. This study will include a land survey work, led by Brennan Consulting, which has already begun and will extend into Mid-January. Among other activities, drone-based survey imaging will take place in the neighborhood this Friday, November 28. Please note that all survey crews will be clearly identifiable with company-branded safety gear and equipment. Additionally, all work will take place outdoors, and no entry onto private property will occur without the property owner's prior permission. More work is expected after this initial land surveying.

For more information about the High School Building project, please visit the building project’s website at https://medfordhsproject.com/. If you have any questions about the upcoming survey work or the building project as a whole, please email mhsproject@medford.k12.ma.us.

We want to build and maintain a strong partnership with our residents throughout this Feasibility Phase and ensure that any work is not intrusive, destructive, or alarming to our Medford community. In the coming months, we will invite you all to learn more about the project and meet the team. We’ll also have a variety of opportunities for you to become involved.

Additionally, it is common for projects of this scale to have an abutter’s list to contact residents as needed. This will help us notify you quickly if there are things you should be aware of before they happen.  We know our surveyors have already been spotted and are working to ensure this newly formed team is fully aligned with our goal of being proactive in communicating with all of you.

To ensure we can reach you in case direct outreach is needed throughout this building process, we kindly ask you to email your name, address, email address, and phone number to mhsproject@medford.k12.ma.us. We will continue to communicate with you so our Medford community can stay informed throughout the building project.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work together to create a new Medford High School for our students and families.

Sincerely,
Dr. Suzanne B. Galusi,
Interim Superintendent, Medford Public Schools
