Superintendent's Weekly Memo - December 8, 2023

Superintendent's Weekly Memo - December 8, 2023
Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent, Superintendent

Dear Mustang Families,

During a School Committee meeting on Monday, I joined Mayor Lungo-Koehn and the members of the  School Committee to recognize and celebrate the Medford Mustang Marching Band and Color Guard

Last month, the Mustangs placed first at the New England Scholastic Band Association finals with a platinum medal! In addition to being the New England Division 2 champions, they also won awards for best music, best visual, best overall effect, and best color guard! This is a first in Medford Band history–and as a community, we’re so proud to celebrate these exemplary Mustang musicians and performers.

In recognition of this major accomplishment, the mayor and superintendent presented each of the students with a certificate on behalf of the entire Medford community. Many thanks to  Ms. Haley Rello, Coordinator of Fine Arts and Band Director, and Ms. Jackie Gaffney, Assistant Band Director, for their hard work in supporting the band program, and our deepest gratitude to the families of our Band and Color Guard students for being their biggest fans.

You can hear many of these musicians perform next week in the annual middle and high school Band and Orchestra holiday concerts! The Band concert will be held on December 13 at 7:00pm in the Caron Theater at Medford High School, and the Orchestra concert will be on December 14 at 7:00pm in the Caron Theater. Join us for these two fun and festive events!

This weekend is also your last chance to support the annual Band fundraiser by buying a Christmas tree or holiday wreath! The Band sells beautiful trees and wreaths at a great value. On Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am-4:00pm, you can buy a tree or wreath at the Medford High School parking lot to benefit the band program. This is the last weekend of the tree and wreath sale!
