Superintendent's Weekly Memo - March 29, 2024

Superintendent's Weekly Memo - March 29, 2024
Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent, Superintendent

Dear Mustang Families,

This weekend is Easter, the most important holy day of the Christian calendar and a day for worshipfamily time and celebration across the world. Most Protestant and Catholic denominations mark Easter this weekend with special holiday services, but we’re also mindful that many Orthodox Christians will celebrate the holiday a couple of weeks later. Easter also incorporates many traditional celebrations of the coming of spring, featuring fresh flowersbright colors, and sometimes a visit from a very generous Bunny! Happy Easter to those who celebrate!

Easter

We’re also looking ahead to the following No School days later in April:

  • Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday, April 10
  • April School Vacation from Monday, April 15 to Friday, April 19

Today’s Memo includes:

  • Safe Routes to School Survey
  • Help the MHS Ethics Bowl Team Compete in North Carolina
  • 2024 Summer Programs Open for Registration
  • Become a "Swing Set Superstar" and Support the New McGlynn Playground
  • Job Openings in Medford Public Schools

Safe Routes to School Survey

Earlier this week, we launched the Safe Routes to School family travel survey. Please take a moment to complete it! The responses will help us identify routes and other resources to encourage and enable more Medford students to walkbike, and roll to school. The survey takes less than five minutes to complete and asks about a student's modes of transportation to and from school.

You can access the survey here. If you are completing the survey on a mobile device, we encourage you to turn your phone sideways to make it easier to read. The survey is open until Tuesday, April 9. Schools with 50% or higher participation will receive an incentive from the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program.

Harlem Wizards vs. Medford Teachers Basketball Game

Save the date of Thursday, April 4th to come and watch Medford's middle school teachers take on the Harlem Wizards in basketball at Medford High School. Game time is set for 7:00pm on Thursday, April 4.

At a Wizards game, fans will witness amazing basketball talent combined with hilarious comedy. It's two hours of family time where parents, grandparents, and kids can all laugh together. When you are in the stands, you are more than a spectator, you are part of the show! Throughout the game, fans will experience a magical display of tricks, coordinated ball handling, fancy passing and aerodynamic athleticism combined with high-energy comedy and audience interaction. The event will feature a variety of fun interactive extras to complement the Wizards dazzling demonstration of hoops artistry: Pregame “Wiz Kids” warm-up, contests, comedy, awesome slam dunks, audience participation, merchandise giveaways and more! There will be Harlem Wizards swag, a concession and half time entertainment! The game will conclude with the Wizards signature dance celebration that will have everyone on their feet and moving to the beat!
