Superintendent's Weekly Memo - November 18
Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent, Superintendent

November 18, 2022

Dear Mustang Community:

The anticipation is so great. This coming Tuesday will mark the 135th encounter between Medford and Malden on the football field during the Thanksgiving Season. This rivalry is one of the oldest high school rivalries in the country. I hope that you are able to join us at this momentous event. Also, I warmly encourage you to come out this evening or tomorrow to the Caron Theater to view our Mustang actors during the theatrical performance, “The Importance of Being Earnest.”  Our wonderful winter Mustang gear is available for purchase tomorrow in the lobby from 12:00 PM-2:30 PM or on Monday and Tuesday of next week from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM in the Community Schools office. I thank you in advance for your support of our Mustangs.

Today’s memo includes:

  • Girls on the Run
  • Health Curriculum Review Team FINAL CALL
  • McGlynn Elementary School Food Drive
  • Thanksgiving Football Game at Fenway on November 22nd
  • First Unified Flag Football Game

Girls on the Run

Tomorrow nearly 2,000 girls from across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will be participating in the Girls on the Run 5K event in Medford at Hormel. The event kicks off at 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM and our own Mayor Lungo-Koehn will be providing opening remarks and participating in the race. This event focuses on building confidence in our girls and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Click here for more information.

Final Call for Health Curriculum Review Team Volunteers

This is a final reminder for parents, caregivers, and interested community members to consider submitting an interest survey at this link to review our district health curriculum.  This is a comprehensive review of our curriculum, the materials, and an identification process to improve our health curriculum within the Medford Public Schools.  We are committed to reviewing the materials and curriculum in an inclusive manner that makes our work accessible to all students.   Our goal is to build a knowledgeable and committed group that strives to include members of our community as represented in our previous communications.

McGlynn School Food Drive

This Monday, November 21st, the McGlynn Elementary School will deliver over 50 bags of donations to the Medford Food Bank.  This annual event of giving collected 1,388 food items and $1,150 for Medford families. Thank you to the many donors and volunteers who made it possible to provide Medford families with food during this holiday season.

Thanksgiving Football Game at Fenway Park

This coming Tuesday your Medford Mustangs will be squaring off against Malden at Fenway Park.  For this Thanksgiving game, we hope to see you fill the stands with Mustang Blue and White Mustang gear.  Come and join us as we cheer on our football team, marching band, and cheer team at Fenway Park.  One of the oldest rivalries in the country kicks off at 7:30 PM, November 22 on the legendary Fenway Park field.

Tickets are on sale and we have shifted our annual Pep Rally at Medford High School to be held on that same day, Tuesday, November 22, 2022.  We will be excited and ready to represent our Mustangs! We hope that this opportunity becomes a source of pride for the entire Medford community and a spotlight on our football, cheering, and band programs.  This will be a memorable event; you can purchase tickets by clicking here.

Also, special commemorative tee shirts, hats, and sweatshirts are currently available for purchase in the athletic office. Please call the athletic office at 781-393-2380 for further information.

First Medford vs. Malden Unified Football Game

While the football team is one of the oldest football rivalries in the country, Medford and Malden added a new chapter this week.  The first-ever Unified Sports Flag Football game was held.  The teams played to a 7 - 7 tie.  We hope this will become an annual tradition for our athletes.  You can watch a clip produced by WCVB here.

Again, I wish you and your family a restful long weekend.
