About Us

We are on the journey together to provide an environment that meets the developmental needs of children. Each child is a unique creation. We are a community of learners and we are careful to understand the needs of an infant, a toddler and a preschooler. The needs of families and staff are also a priority.

The infant grows from dependency to exploration by bonding with a parent(s) at home, staff members and children and is encouraged to become trusting and confident through language, hugs, music, eating, crawling, changing and “floor” time. A toddler longs for independence. We go on that journey by encouraging language, a predictable order to the day, and boundaries. It’s tricky with toddlers - they aren’t always aware of cause and effect situations (If I put my fingers in the door and close it...) there’s a bit of “life guarding” involved! There’s also the joy of the amazing curiosity and memory of these little ones. The preschooler continues in this pattern and is able to spend lots of time in play, alone or with a friend. He/she becomes responsible for solving problems through conversation, negotiation, empathy, and seeing another point of view. The self-control “brakes” begin to work through clear and consistent limit setting.

Play and friendship are the foundation of life at Kids’ Corner. Children learn best through play. By creating an environment that stimulates a child’s imagination, is orderly, well designed, and homey, the building blocks of learning take on all kinds of construction. Whether it’s art, blocks, science, music, writing, pretending, story reading and telling, it all shapes our children into becoming lifelong learners. Friendship teaches that the other person’s ideas and personality are to be appreciated and respected; that creates community.

The path the curriculum takes is a combination of the children’s ideas and the teacher’s plans. It is a bit like a dance, where the lead partner is not always the same person. The curriculum emerges out of their natural curiosity.

We strive to make Kids’ Corner a great place for families. Our hope is that you will find us to be that kind of community.
